Korean Literature Museum

韓國文學館國際比圖

Seoul, Korea

The museum’s organization strategy of a continuous exhibition path over four levels gives form to the overall massing. Literary passages cast their shadows on the lobby floor, followed by a series of ascending galleries, akin to a folded timeline that spans the ancient, classical, modern and contemporary periods. Each turn of the ramps also marks a critical juncture in the history of Korean literature. These landings are also where special program elements such as the multi-purpose room and café are placed. The space below the ramps become a perfect depository for the historical treasures, along with preservation, special reading, educational and office programs. The museum experience concludes with a floating box clad in weathering steel.
